Riders from Malaysia and abroad bring their horses to this signature set of equestrian shows.

Malaysian Open - July

The Malaysian Open follows the same schedule for jumping and dressage classes. It climaxes with the Queens Cup that is open to lady riders and offers a jewellery prize. In the World Cup Qualifier show jumping round, riders from Southeast Asia and other countries will try to accumulate points that will allow them an entry in the World Cup finals. It is usually held in Las Vegas or Goteborg in April the following Year. In 2006, Malaysia became the first country in Asia to host the World Cup final.

Merdeka Masters - August

The Merdeka Masters is a popular event held in conjunction with the country?s Independence Day. Apart from the usual standard FEI dressage and jumping classes, the event also features colourful cultural performances. The competition starts on a Thursday ending on Sunday afternoon with another World Cup Qualifier Round.

National Horse Show - September

The National Horse Show is held in a different state every year. It features equestrian activities such as mounted games, horse ball, polo, jumping, eventing, dressage, fancy dress and carriage riding. It comprises a fair, breed display as well as pony club events, which are the highlight of the show.

FEI World Cup Challenge - November

The FEI in Switzerland sends their professionally designed jumping tracks to the local federation of participating countries so that riders can compete in an international event without having to transport their horses. For Dressage 2, FEI International Dressage judges travel to the region visiting countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and India. Riders take an FEI test at their level of entry and are judged by the same judges as riders from other countries, enabling them to compete against each other without having to travel. This popular event helps the up-and-coming riders to evaluate their skills at the international level.

Sukma - June : every two years

Sukma or Sukan Malaysia is organised by the National Sports Council once every two years in collaboration with the sport councils at the state level as well as schools and universities. Each state fields teams and athletes of popular sports. The venue is usually rotated between the different states of the country and is held for ten days. The addition of equestrian to a variety of sports such as archery, aquatics, sepaktakraw and wushu shows that horse riding is now becoming less of an ?elite? activity and more accessible to the people. This can be contributed to the efforts of the Malaysian Equine Council in the promotion and funding of the ?Riding in Schools Programme?.
