MARANG

 
 

About 17 km from Kuala Terengganu, the beach of Marang is famous for its rustic setting. Scenery of its fishing village, and of boats returning at dusk with the day's catch, is a favorites on postcards, as well as the subject of many award-winning photographs. You can get here by taxi or Marang and Dungun Bus at Kuala Terengganu Bus Station.

 

Marang is also picturesque fishing village, it welcomes her visitors with tall swaying coconut trees, cool fresh air, an incredibly beautiful lagoon and a fleet of fishing trawlers.  Any visitor to Marang will be easily captivated by its natural beauty and simplistic ambience.

 

The Marang River still retains its dynamic natural ecosystem.  Marang town is undergoing development and its facilities are constantly upgraded to cater the needs of the tourists and visitors that flock the area.  Such facilities include car-park, hotels, resorts and chalets, restaurants and public toilets.  Since time immemorial, Marang has retained its 'cowboy town' atmosphere where most of the shop lots and buildings are old.

 
 

PULAU KAPAS ISLAND

PULAU GEMIA / GEM ISLAND

KAMPUNG JENANG TRADITIONAL VILLAGE

 

Visitors can mingle with the friendly kampung folks, watch the simple weaving of attap leaves still in demand by hotels, resorts, restaurants and individuals home lining up the attap leaves as roof shades for traditional gazebo and beach shades. Watch the making of coconut palm sugar, a sweet brownnish in collour and widely used in making traditional delicacies.  During fruit season, with a minimum fee, visitors could freely eat the tropical fruits such as rambutan, durian, duku, langsat, mangosteen and rambai.

 
 
 

KELULUT BEACH

 

Renowned for the yearly Cultural Fiesta ground, the alluring powdery sands of Pantai Kelulut is the preferred weekend destination by locals.  Pantai Kelulut has all the basic facilities such as public toilets, restaurants, grocery shops and even weekly night markets.  Even the weekly night market is held here attracting locals and foreigners alike.

 
 
 

KAMPUNG RHU RENGGEH - Handicrafts & Dried Seafood Stalls

 

If you are traveling south of Kuala Terengganu, the moment you enter the district of Marang, you will find stalls selling handicrafts and dried seafood.  The handicrafts are mainly rattan products, weaved mengkuang and wood-carving and batik products, all at a reasonable price.  Among the dried seafood on sale are different dried fish, dried squids, anchovies, shrimp paste and fish and shrimp crackers.
