Arwana Porto Malai Langkawi is noted for its Mediterranean architecture and as a terminal for ocean-going cruise ships which regularly call here on their way to and from Singapore and southern Thailand The complex features a hote4 restaurants and shops lining the waterfront as well as a small marlna.


This Mediterranean-styled hotel and marina is one of Langkawi?s more lively areas that comes to life when cruise ships such as those from Star Cruises, moor at the adjoining wharf Each week, hundreds of eager tourists arrive on these cruise ships to discover Langkawi?s attractions and to indulge in duty-free shopping. Many dine along the breezy promenade painted in all the colours of the rainbow. The hotel has several food and beverage outlets such as the Boardwalk Caf? Terrazza serving delicious Mediterranean cuisine and Bananas for those who want to relax after the sun goes down.



The Yachtsman Restaurant opens when the cruise ships arrive, especially on Monday for Star Cruises, Souvenir shops selling duty-free items are located along the boardwalk. The hotel is popular with group and package travellers who flock here for the value for money accommodation. This 175-room hotel has panoramic views of the Andaman Sea, surrounding islands and adjoining lagoon.


Each room features international standard facilities and there is a business centre as well as meeting and conference facilities. Watersports such as jet-skiing, canoeing, wind surfing, Hobie cats, water-skiing and sailing are possible. Several sailing and boating charters operate from the marina and sunset cruises around nearby islands are particularly popular. The marina currently has 14 berths supplied with electricity, water and fuel but there are plans to extend this to 93 berths. Fixed moorings are also available in sheltered waters off the marina.

Rebak Marina Resort is the only development on a small private island located just off Langkawi main beachfront of Cenang Beach. This development includes a safe and protected modern marina a luxury resort and facilities for servicing boasi.


Rebak is an integrated development offering marina and luxury resort facilities in a tranquil and relatively isolated situation. The marina is located on the southwestern tip of a privately owned island just off the main Langkawi Island. Rebak Island is home for many passing yachters who use the sheltered berths as a base to discover Malaysia and other Asian destinations. When the time comes, these yachters set sail and move on. Some initially came for regional yachting races and have never returned home. There are excellent dry facilities in the marina for do-it-yourself yacht repairs. These include a lift, dry berths and access to equipment purchases in the marina, Kuah or via international courier. Most of the island is undeveloped although there are plans for an extensive residential complex that includes shops, restaurants and bars lining the marina basin. Currently these are restricted to the resort, which includes the Marina Caf? Marina Bar and Lounge, Pool Bar and evening entertainment in the Karaoke Lounge. Resort accommodation is available in low-rise timber chalets shaded by tropical gardens and tall coconut palms.


There are 106 rooms, chalets and suites with either garden or beach views. They are well-spaced and electric carts or bicycles facilitate movement throughout the resort. The marina has ?Macgregor 26? yachts and others, available for self-chartering or skippered charter. Charters can range from half-day to several months depending upon guest requirements. Rebak is not only an excellent place to moor yachts but also a venue for boat chartering or a holiday in a luxury resort on a near-deserted island. It is currently the only Malaysian marina that offers visa extensions of up to two years to yachters through an arrangement with the Immigration Department.

Malaysia?s largest marina is centrally located near Langkawi?s main settlement of Kuah. A recently constructed breakwall provides protection for 205 vessels. Formed in 1996, the club offers extensive services and facilities for yachters, boaters and visitors. The club hosts the annual Royal Langkawi International Regatta in March and the final leg of the Raja Muda International Regatta in November.


Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC) clubhouse is an elegant structure exuding rustic charm while taking advantage of the natural landscape. Its sloping roof is shaped like a ship?s hull. From the veranda, guests have spectacular vistas of gleaming luxury boats, the busy ferry terminal and nearby deserted islands. The recent expansion of the marina, including the construction of a 340m. breakwater, now provides 205 wet-berths including facilities for mega yachts up to 50m long. Captain?s Deck Restaurant, with a seating capacity of 120 both indoors and on the veranda, has elevated views of the marina. The Pool Deck is an open-air deck beside the marina and consists of a pool and Jacuzzi. With a seating capacity for up to 300 guests. there is ample space for private functions. RLYC is conveniently located in Kuah where boat owners can buy provisions and do their banking. Marina facilities such as postal and parcel service, locker rooms and port clearance services are available. The club is like a small village offering supplies, recreation and sporting facilities.


These include marine-related equipment, souvenirs, Internet and duty-free beverages. Transfers are also available as well as vehicle rental, island tours and catering for private functions. Apart from offering jet-ski and jet-boat rentals. the RLYC Sea Sport Centre can also arrange diving and/or snorkeling adventures to the nearby Payar Island Marine Park. RLYC has two boats available for charter. Putri Maimunah is a 17m. ?Gallart? vessel that includes the services of a professional skipper, engineer and service staff It offers three cabins, two bathrooms, showers, luxurious sitting room and a dining area. It has comfortable and spacious upper and stern decks for lounging and sunbathing for a maximum of 12 guests. Soraya is a 7m. ?Trophy? vessel with a 1 50h.p. single engine. Charters for a maximum of up to four guests include the services of a professional skipper. The vessel is ideal for island hopping and sports fishing. RLYC is the organiser of the annual Royal Langkawi International Regatta held for the first time in mid March 2003.

Telaga Harbour Park is the new gateway and destination for yachts plying the region. This safe and sheltered harbour evolved from a small fishing village, and features a self-contained township accessible both by road and sea. The various facilities and services available make it an ideal destination for yachts of various sizes including mega yachts. Within its 27-acre marina are complete marine infrastructure and public berthing facilities which were built by the Langkawi Development Authority. A number of berths are allocated for long-term stay. Berthing is either at the Megayacht Pier (stern-to-mooring) or Marina Pier, to the floating pontoons.
