These activities at Kenyir Lake are not for the faint hearted.  But then, if you were the type whose idea of entertainment is watching the wilds only for the safety of your living room couch, you wouldn't be reading this!

 

So, pack your gear and heads towards the Kenyir Lake jungle, that exciting, yet peaceful realm where Nature reigns in all her glory. With thousand of species calling the area their home surrounds Kenyir. Some of highlands designated for trekking and camping are Gunung Gagau, Gunung Bongsu and Gunung Padang.

 

But remember, this is no petting zoo, so follow only marked trails or engage an experience guide. This jewel of a rainforest, so rich in flora and fauna. They can lead you safely through this intricate maze, and you will be rewarded with an experience rich with information and insights into the rainforest?s countless secrets and inhabitants. FISHING

Tasik Kenyir is known as an anglers haven where fishing is concerned. With the many rivers and tributaries serving as breeding grounds, hundreds of species of fish like Kelisa, Kelah, Toman, Baung, Sebarau and Lampan, to name just a few, are found in abundance. Good fishing spots are at Cacing, Petang, Leban, Petuang, Saok, Sg. Terengganu and many others. Anglers are advised to arrange fro special fishing trips through chalet or private boat operators for the best fishing permit is required from the Wildlife Department for fishing in the National Park.

 
 

CAMPING & JUNGLE TREKKING

If outdoor activities are your cup of tea, Tasik Kenyir provides an ideal rendezvous with beautiful mother nature and peaceful camp-sites are plentiful in and around the lake. Popular spots are along the rivers of Saok, Lasir, Cacing, Cicir, Lawit, Petang, Terengganu, Tembat and Pulau Poh. Should you decide on jungle trekking please consult your guide (boat/chalet operator). The popular and challenging trails are Mount Gagau and Lawit. Trekkers are advised to engage a jungle guide.

 
 

CAVES EXPLORATION

If visions of dwarfs digging for diamonds in caves adorned with stalagmites and stalactites fill your imagination, then Kenyir Lake holds yet another attractions for you.

 

As far as we know, there are two dwarfs nor diamonds in the caves of Kenyir, but that shouldn't keep you away as the spectacular cavern formation are definitely there. Bewah and Taat, two magnificent limestone hills, located about an hour and a half by boat from Pengkalan Gawi, are the keepers of the several magnificent caves. These cave are not only natural wonders, they are also the sites of archeological discoveries dating back to Neolithic times. This is the site where archeologists and historians have uncovered artifacts such as kitchen utensils, axes and tools.  You can now explore the Taat Caves through its two visible entrances while the nearby Bewah Caves has only one entrance.

At Bewah Caves, solar lighting are available.  As Bewah and Taat Caves hold many secrets of the past, further excavations are now being planned by the authorities in a bid to unveil their mysteries. Perhaps you might stumble upon an as yet undiscovered artifact or prehistoric weapons?  So, don?t wait anymore. But put on your hat and make a beeline for the Bewah and Taat caves. It is advisable to bring along torchlight's should you explore Taat Caves.

MAGNIFICENT WATERFALLS

Glittering Cascades that shower you with clear, cool mountain water admits a green jungle paradise.  Kenyir has more than 14 waterfalls, all-beautiful, all worth a visit.

 

These waterfalls are popular spots for picnicking as they provide a cool, relaxed and rejuvenating ambience that awaits its visitors.  A picnic at these waterfalls is featured in almost every itinerary.  Better basic amenities like toilets, changing rooms and rest areas are provided.

 

Lasir Waterfalls

 

Lasir - Located 16 km (20 - 30 minutes boat ride) to the south of Pengkalan Gawi, is one of the most popular picnic spots in Tasik Kenyir. With a majestic fall of some 500 feet, Lasir drops gracefully onto a multi tiered level of boulders and rocks forming cascading showers of foaming white sprays of the water. This waterfalls, as with all waterfalls within Kenyir is well shaded by the leafy green canopy of the surrounding tropical rainforest.

 
 

Saok Waterfalls

 

A mere 15 minutes boat ride from Pengkalan Gawi, Saok Waterfall is fast gaining popularity among holiday makers. Cascading waters over its rocky terraces and boulders and a flat sandy area at ground level make it a perfect picnic spot for the whole family.

 
 

Tembat Waterfalls

 

Unlike Lasir and Saok, Tembat Waterfall is actually composed of five rapids of fast flowing cascades. With a large camping area at its side, it is without doubt, the most popular destination for campers. A hiking trail leading to the top of the fall rewards the hikers with a magnificent view of the waterfall and its surroundings. A boat ride from Pengkalan Gawi to Tembat takes about an hour.

 
 

Other waterfalls within the Lake is the Petang, Leban, Terengganu, Lata Terap, Sg. Buih, Sg. Lawit and Petuang.

 
 
 

WATER SPORTS

 

With so much water around you ? 38,000 ha. of surface area to be exact, you cannot not to indulge in some Water sports.  Tasik Kenyir is being promoted as a water sport circuit. Take your pick: there is kayaking, canoeing, water-skiing, jet skiing, swimming, and shooting down rapids on the rivers. Watch out for the annual Kenyir Regatta and Telematch.  In sporting activities, adventures, peaceful relaxation or closeness to mother nature, Tasik Kenyir offers so much more....
