TERENGGANU - EAST COAST REGION OF PENINSULAR MALAYSIA
SETIU

It is believed that Setiu got its name from a Bugis warrior.  Bandar Permaisuri, which means the Queen's Town is the administrative centre..  Setiu is famous for its enchanting beaches, its natural charms, agro-based products and its traditional way of living.  Another famous attraction in Setiu is its wetland areas.

GUNUNG TEBU / MOUNT TEBU

Gunung Tebu remains shrouded with myths and legends.  At the foothills of Gunung Tebu, one can enjoy frolicking in sprays of the waterfall at Lata Belatan.  Climbing Gunung Tebu is quite an experience.  It takes 2 hours for a trained climber to reach the mountain top.  What ever it takes, one has to be agile and fit enough to scale the mountain.  The terrain sometimes gets tough and only the tough gets going.

PENARIK BEACH

Visitors seeking a place to unwind far away from the rush of city life will immediately be drawn to Pantai Penarik.  This beach is a 'postcard perfect' setting, complete with fishing villages, traditional houses, clean white sand and sparkling waters while coconut trees line the beach. On any clear days, the scenic islands of Bidong, Redang, Lang Tengah and Pulau Perhentian provides a picturesque sea view. Watch local fisherman with their catch of their day or fancy buying some freshly caught fish, crab or prawn for an unforgettable barbeque dinner by the sea.

MERANG BEACH

This beach stretches as far as the eye could se and what a view it is! The pristine seashore is home to quaint fishing villages and one of the highlights here is to watch the captivating sunrise and sunset.

MERANG TOURIST JETTY

Not to be confused with Marang.  Visitors going to Pulau Redang, Pulau Lang Tengah and Pulau Bidong Island disembarks from the Merang tourist jetty, situated mere 40 minutes drive north of Kuala Terengganu.  Private owned and government jetties lined up the Merang riverbanks, providing efficient service for tourists.  Ample parking space, souvenir stalls and toilet facilities are available at the jetty.

PULAU REDANG ISLAND

Of all the islands in Terengganu,  Pulau Redang has been blessed with development and relevant infrastructures.  To date, chalets, resorts and hotels have mushroomed over the years.  The government constructed a new school at Hulu Redang in tandem with the resettlement of the Kuala Redang populace to the new homes at Hulu Redang. Pulau Redang is accessible by both air and sea.  The fisheries act of 1985 declared Redang and its archipelago as a marine park.  Pulau Pinang is the marine park centre.  There are many dive sites and snorkeling areas.  In fact, the whole of Pulau Redang offers an abundance of marine life.  The flora and fauna of the underwater world of Redang is a heaven to scuba-divers... Details

PULAU BIDONG ISLAND - Little Saigon

When Saigon fell to the invading North Vietnamese armies in 1975, the people felt unsafe.  They fled in boats braving even the ferocious monsoon to reach the distant shores.  When the boat people (Vietnamese illegal immigrants) landed in the east coast states of Peninsula Malaysia, they were placed at Pulau Bidong. UNHCR shouldered the onus of setting shelters, building hospitals, school, recreational areas and providing foods and waters. When they were relocated to the third countries of their choice, Pulau Bidong was left in total abandonment. Recently the state has set up Bidong Heritage Fund to formulate, monitor and reconstruct the island into a visitors' zone... Details

PULAU LANG TENGAH ISLAND

Its name is derived from the sea eagles that breed on this picturesque island.  Located between Pulau Perhentian and Pulau Redang, Pulau Lang Tengah succeeded in maintaining its natural habitat.  The jungles are still intact and pristine.  The sea promises corals of unrivaled beauty and a diverse marine population...
